2023 Travel Essentials

Apps / Websites

  • FlightAware | One of my consulting colleagues showed me this tool when my husband and I were doing distance between Chicago and Boston and it SAVED me hours of time. My favorite feature is the “where’s my plane” where you can track your inbound plan to better plan when you need to be at your gate. To see more heck out my TikTok here for a quick tutorial.
  • /Tab  | My least favorite thing in traveling with large groups of people is how to split the bill. A friend showed me this app years ago and it allows you to take a picture of your receipt and itemize it based on who got what making it incredibly easy to split! I love that you can also make it so that if folks split an item you can also include that! I have a TikTok here that shows a quick tutorial of how it works.
  • Hotel Tonight | The secret to getting luxury hotels for less is Hotel Tonight. This app takes remnant inventory from hotels and lists them at a fraction of the price. I have used all across the USA but this app was a true lifesaver for the last minute trips we took when I was living in Europe. I talk more about how we use it and how to book on my TikTok here.
  • GetAround | Living in big cities without a car? From San Francisco, to Boston, to Chicago – GetAround gave me freedom to travel and do day trips. The app uses IOT technology to let you instantly rent out other peoples cars in your area.
  • Been | Traveling isn’t a checklist but there should be an easy way to appreciate the progress you’ve made & inspire you to travel & see more!! This app is free and simple and have been using it to keep track of all the places I’ve been.

Luggage / Packing

  • CalPak Terra Backpack | I gifted this to myself this year and am obsessed how versatile and chic it is. I love using this for weekend trips. It fits all you’d need and can be converted from backpack to duffle!
  • Away Everywhere Bag | This is a staple personal item of mine. The material is super durable and has last over 50+ trips.
  • Monos Packing Cubes | This year we traveled to Australia for our 3 week honeymoon with just a carry on. These packing cubes were the reason we were able to fit so much! They have compression so it gave us the best amount of space.
  • ROAM Carry On | In Europe, its common for air carriers to base bag allowance on weight. I love this carry on from ROAM because it is super high quality, incredibly light, and completely customizable so you never have to worry about someone confusing your luggage for their own! You can use my code MYNAMEISMARISSAAAA for $50 off.
  • Beis Carry On | The most important piece of advice I have for travelers is to invest in a carry on with good compartment space. I am a really big fan of the beis luggage because of that! We used them for this year for our honeymoon and were able to fit 3 weeks of outfits!
  • Travel Jewelry Case | Organization is key for when you are traveling. I use this travel jewelry case from Amazon and it has great compartment space to hold all of your jewelry while you’re on the go!

Toiletries / Beauty

  • Bagsmart Toiletry bag | I have been through 10+ toiletry bags since I started traveling. I purchased this bag back in 2018 due to the rave Amazon reviews and haven’t gone back! It fits so much without take up too much space, which is a must!
  • Mini straightener | Space is key when you are traveling and I like to be as low maintenance as possible so I can spend time enjoying the places we are visiting! This mini straightener has been a staple in my toiletry bag for years now and is perfect for styling on the go without taking up tons of space.
  • Auroglow teeth whitening pen | When you are always on the go, you need caffeine and as someone who cares a lot about dental hygiene, I hate when caffeine stains my teeth! I was a loyal crest white strips user until I found this whitening pen and it changed the game.
  • SteriPod toothbrush covers | Can you believe there was a time where we let our toothbrushes float around in our toiletry bags? Thinking about it makes me gag! A friend of mine turned me on to these a few years back and love that when you take your brush out it has this wonderful fresh minty smell.
  • Bauberella ring cleaner | This pen is perfect to keep in your purse or toiletry bag to keep your jewelry nice and sparkly on the go.

Accessories

  • Travel Sound Machine | If you struggle to get a good nights sleep while traveling, travel sound machines are a great item to incorporate into your nighttime routine while you’re traveling.
  • iFly Bluetooth headphone | I hate relying on airlines for headphones to use the TV screens. This bluetooth adapter allows you to connect your own headphones to the monitors and bonus you can connect up to two headsets so its perfect for when you are traveling with a companion!
  • AirPods | Everyone has a personal preference when it comes to headsets. For me, the AirPod pros are perfect for traveling because they are compact and with the inserts comfortable enough to keep in your ears for a couple of hours.
